Polymarket API: How to Get Polymarket Data (2026 Guide)
Every way to get Polymarket data in 2026 — the official Gamma and CLOB APIs, the on-chain route, and the Polynyx Developer API and MCP server for smart-money analytics — with what each returns, rate limits, and code to start.
There are three ways to get Polymarket data: the official APIs (Gamma for markets, the CLOB for prices and order books, the data API for positions and trades), the chain itself(every fill is an on-chain event on Polygon), and an analytics API that has already done the reconstruction — who the profitable wallets are, what they hold, and what the model would bet. This guide covers all three, what each returns, and when to use which.
1. The official Polymarket APIs (free, raw)
Gamma (gamma-api.polymarket.com) lists markets and events: titles, slugs, outcomes, condition ids, volume and liquidity. CLOB (clob.polymarket.com) is the order book — best bid/ask, depth, price history per outcome token, and order placement if you sign with a wallet. The data API (data-api.polymarket.com) returns a wallet's positions and recent trades, and a global trade tape cached for a few minutes.
What you do notget: who a wallet is, whether it is any good, net realized P&L (the profile number mixes in unrealized marks and ignores losses already taken), bot detection, category rankings, or any notion of “smart money”. Those require rebuilding every wallet's history from fills.
2. On-chain: the ground truth
Every Polymarket trade is an OrderFilledevent on the CTF Exchange contract on Polygon. Reading the chain gives you the lowest-latency tape and the only complete history, but it means decoding maker/taker legs, mapping token ids to markets, handling neg-risk and resolutions, and storing hundreds of millions of fills. Polynyx does exactly this — 500M+ fills reconstructed into per-wallet P&L.
3. The Polynyx Developer API: Polymarket data with the analytics done
The Polynyx Developer API is a REST API over that analytics layer:
- Markets & odds — live markets by category with probabilities, 24h volume, liquidity, and odds history from 1h to max (
GET /api/v1/markets,/markets/{market}). - Smart money per market— the ranked, Sharp and Whale wallets on each side, with shares, entry prices and track records, plus the aggregate “follow” line (
/markets/{market}/smart-money). - Leaderboard & traders— 200k+ wallets by net realized P&L, ROI or win rate, by category, bots flagged; and a full deep-dive per wallet (
/traders,/traders/{trader}). - Signals, conviction, tape— the model's live picks with backtested win rates, smart-money conviction clusters, and the enriched live trade tape (
/signals,/conviction,/activity).
Authentication is a bearer key from the developer dashboard; every response carries rate-limit and quota headers, and the API reference documents every parameter.
Polymarket data for AI agents: the MCP server
The same endpoints are exposed as tools on a Model Context Protocol server at polynyx.com/mcp, so Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or any agent can ask “who is the smart money on tonight's game?” and get a live, cited answer. One command adds it to Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http polynyx https://polynyx.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer pnx_YOUR_KEY"
Which should you use?
- Placing orders or reading raw books → the official CLOB API.
- Listing markets for a site → Gamma, or Polynyx if you also want category, smart-money and history in one call.
- Anything about who is trading — leaderboards, wallet track records, smart money, signals → the Polynyx Developer API or MCP server.
- Dashboards without code → Polydune, which builds on the same API.
Pricing and limits
The official APIs are free with per-IP rate limits. The Polynyx Developer API is a paid subscription — Hobby from $49.99/month with 50,000 requests, Developer at $149.99/month with 500,000, Scale by contact — with commercial use on every plan. See plans and limits.
The whale tape, the rankings and the signals — free, no signup.
